About the Book
Preface
Constrained by commercialism, plain photography has run into a lifeless groove aimed solely to generate revenues. Breaking free from the expected, photographers from 41 countries embraced the aphorism “Karmanye Vadika raste, ma Phaleshu Kadachin”-duty is to do your work and not to worry of the outcome. They saw, they perceived, they felt happy, they wanted to capture their feelings and so they clicked. The result is stupendous. Bridging the divide of language and culture and state and country, each photograph unfolds a story. Only its comprehension depends on individual perception.
“You take the blue pill – the story ends, you wake in your bed and believe in whatever you want to believe.” I entreat you to take the red pill and explore how deep the rabbit hole goes or in this case the power of creativity. Turn to subsequent pages please and wake up to the beauty of reality captured in this book. The book is the compiled quintessence of amalgamation between art and science. Armed with the very basic tool- a pin-hole camera, the photographers illustrate the beauty of simplicity. Picking on mundane subjects, the mother of modern camera controls light and shade effects and creates myriad images that touch the soul. Thus fitted out, pin-hole photography transforms into a medium to be taken seriously in art.
On a side note, apart from the photographers, this book is the culmination of the vision and hard work of a group of enthusiasts who formed Goa Center for Alternative Photography (Goa-CAP). This vibrant group organized a competition for experimental photographers dabbling with pin-hole camera photography. The outcome is for all to admire.
