About the Book
Sean McGINNIS, spent three weeks in the summer of 2009 weaving his string magic in the mountains near Colorado Springs, for the Green Box Arts Festival. Eight assistants, several miles of string, two cherry pickers later, "crépuscule" was born. We are delighted to give you a glimpse of it here and encourage you to see it in person in Green Mountain Falls, where it will remain until nature reclaims it.
Mr. McGINNIS, born and raised in Kansas, lived ten years in Tucson, Arizona, where he was inspired not only by the beauty of the desert, but also the imagery and philosophy of the native people there. He received his MFA from The University of Arizona in 1989 and widely exhibited his brightly-colored multi-armed ceramic spiral sculptures in the South West and across the United States.
In 1997, he moved to Paris, where he came in contact with new influences and materials and started his recent enchanted work with string in 2003. He has spun his creations in such varied places as Algiers, Dublin, and Paris before coming to Colorado to do his first string installation in the United States.
